About our School2023-05-25T12:45:40+00:00

Peria School is a Year 1 to 8 rural school of 69 students with a Principal and 3 classroom teachers. There are Kaiawhina (Teacher aides) in each of the classrooms. We also have a wonderful support staff of cleaners, chefs, caretaker, office admin and music tutors.

The diverse community consists of a wide range of lifestyles and economic backgrounds. Parents are committed to participating in their child’s education through our open door policy and are encouraged to be involved in all learning activities outside the classroom.

The school is very well resourced with facilities that provide students with a high quality learning environment. Each classroom caters for the diverse needs of the students through high quality learning programmes. In Te Puna (new entrant – year 2 students) we have our lovely Whaea Dominique who interests include structured literacy and drama. She has the dynamic Whaea Josephine as her Teacher aide and Whaea Josephine is a trained teacher with an interest in the creatives as well as learning through play. In Te Awa (Year 3-4) we have our lovely Whaea Jo who loves all things sports and is an avid bike rider and marathon runner. She has Claire as her teacher aide and Claire is the longest standing member of our staff and brings a wealth of skills, knowledge and kindness to our team. Last but no least we have Te Rangi (year 5-8 students). In Te Rangi we have our local resident Whaea Frances who has wonderful connections to Peria, is creative and thoughtful and brings her knowledgeable green thumb and artistic flair to our school. Her teacher aide is Whaea Ren who in her spare time is working towards becoming a Pou Waru, which is the highest achievement someone can aspire to in Mau rākau. Whaea Ren is also very knowledgeable about Peria, local histories and Te Ao Māori. cornerswim

Our school environment consists of classroom blocks and an administration area. We have a library, Swimming pool, bike track, natural confidence course, playgrounds, green house, fruit forest, trampoline and native gardens just to name a few things. We also have chefs who are part of our whānau and provide free nutritious and yummy lunches for all of our students each day, free of charge.

The staff and community are proud of their school and the opportunities it provides for their students.

Our school is located in an attractive rural setting 10 minutes inland from Taipa, when travelling by car.

Our buses leave from Taipa and Wells Road at 7:30am every morning. They also cover Honeymoon Valley and Fern Flat.

We have music tutors that teach our students music and musical instruments every Thursday.

Although we are inland from the beaches we enjoy many trips out and about to ensure our students can be in the environment as much as possible.
