During March 2009 a number of schools across New Zealand joined together to share their creativity, their ideas and their writing around the topic of fairy tale characters. Their task, should they chose to accept it, was to develop new adventures for fairy tales (and other) characters in ways in which we learn new fascinating and interesting things about them and we put them in situations that were never part of the original tale.

FAIRY TALES

April - 2009 - But first let us introduce ourselves and tell you about where we live…

Once upon a time in a small enchanted land called Peria, near the top of New Zealand (half an hour drive by pumpkin carriage to Kaitaia), there was a school with the same name. Nearby there is a mystical mountain called Maungataniwha. Lots of magical trees (like kauri) grow, and animals live in this land. It’s just like a fairyland! Just down the lane there are lovely beaches. Around Peria there are hills, farms, trees and lots of lovely pixies, fairies and elves (otherwise known as kids/aka children).

In our school there are seventy kids. Every day we hop on a magical banana bus to come to school. Some kids come in apple cucumbers (cars). We have a food forest with candy apples. We grow talking tress and we have a fantastic field with trees to climb.

In this school there is a classroom called Te Awa, that has twenty six enthusiastic Year 3, 4 and 5 fairies and pixies. There are twin fairies in the kingdom of Te Awa. Half of our class are tahurangi. We have a wonderful teacher called Cinderella, who has two helpful elves named Sue and Claire.

At our school there is always something happening, for example the evil dragon might be taking someone away!
Our class likes to learn new things and read books (especially ones about fairies). We learn Maori waiata, haka and lots of Maori words and language. We have Smart-boards in our school, which are like computer screens, but much bigger. They go on the wall. We used it when we were writing this class description together.

We all like to have a good laugh. We set goals and we try to always have high expectations. Sometimes we get overexcited and get a bit silly! We are not a perfect class…

When Goldilocks got home she found a letter from her friends the three bears. She opened the envelope and read it out loud,
To Goldilocks,
Will you please come over ASAP. Baby bear is sick.
Lots of love
The Three Bears.

“Oh no, not again,” she cried.
Baby bear was always sick, and this was the third time this week. Goldilocks packed her bag and doctor’s kit then went walking down the lane until she came to a ginger-bread house.
“Why do they always move houses, it’s so hard to try and find theirs!”
She knocked on the door and a little old lady opened it. The little old lady said, “Come in Goldilocks.”
Goldilocks said, “I am looking for the three bears.”
“Oh,” croaked the little old lady, “Just down the lane. They have a pink happy mailbox.”
She went back inside and closed the door. Goldilocks carried on down the lane and through the gate by the pink letterbox.
She opened the door and cried, “Hi guys, I’m here.”
But there was no reply…

Goldilocks

She found a big bad wolf waiting, it came chasing after her. So she ran through the woods and saw the gingerbread house. She looked inside and she saw the little gingerbread man. Goldilocks was hungry and decided she would eat the gingerbread man as he looked really tasty. The gingerbread man said “oh no!". After she ate him she ran away. Goldilocks found the big bad wolf waiting for her at her gate. The wolf gave Goldilocks a poisoned apple. She took one bite out of it and nearly died.
When she woke up she found herself locked in the dragon’s castle. Luckily Pinocchio arrived to rescue her. He found the key to unlock the castle door while the dragon slept.
They ran off and lived happily together forever.

Then she dashed out the door to follow the elf. The elf ran into the woods and then… an ogre jumped out and caught the elf and took him back to his dark slimy cave.
“Oh no” said Goldilocks. Then she heard a noise that sounded like a horn. There was a knight in shining armor on a black horse coming towards her.
‘’ Are you going to take me to ogre cave?’’ said Goldilocks.
“Yes I will”, the Knight said.
So they rode and rode until they got to a little house. The Knight said, “This is as far as I can go. Here have my shield Goldilocks. She grasped the shield and dropped it off a cliff.
‘’Ok”, said the Knight, “Here have my sword‘’ She dropped the sword on his foot. “AHHHHHHHHHH”, and the knight disappeared. She started to walk up the narrow road until she came to an enormous dark cave that lead her right to the ogre, his ten trolls and the two elves.
