This website lets you search and browse all 76 issues of the magazine Te Ao Hou The New World.

Te Ao Hou was published from 1952 to 1976 by the Māori Affairs Department in New Zealand Aotearoa. According to its first editorial, Te Ao Hou aimed “to provide interesting and informative reading for Maori homes … like a marae on paper, where all questions of interest to the Maori can be discussed.”

This website contains over 3,000 biographies of New Zealanders who have ‘made their mark’ on this country. It does not include people who are alive. So you will not find people like Helen Clark or Sean Fitzpatrick, but you will find people like George Nepia or Michael Joseph Savage.

Timeframes is an online database of heritage images from the Alexander Turnbull Library, a division of the National Library of New Zealand, which holds the nation’s pre-eminent collection of publications, manuscripts, music, maps, sound recordings, ephemera, photographs, cartoons, paintings, drawings and prints. The picture collections cover the social and natural history of New Zealand, the Pacific and Antarctica from the earliest European contact to the present.
