Reporting an absence
Notify the School immediately if your child will be absent by
- Calling the office 09 408 5834
- using the Edge App
- Emailing office@peria.school.nz
- Responding to the automated text sent by Edge
Unexplained Absences
- Will be followed up on the day by Admin.
- After three days and no contact from whānau your child’s teacher will check in via a phone call.
- 3 or more days off sick will require a medical certificate.
- See our Peria Tiered absence system to understand what happens with extended unjustified absences.
Planned absences
Holidays and leave are encouraged to be taken in the school holidays. We understand this might not always be possible so please take note of the following procedures –
- Please contact the office in the first instance.
- Please email the principal directly if absence is up to 5 consecutive days at principal@peria.school.nz
- If extended leave (6 consecutive days or more) please email a letter to the principal at principal@peria.school.nz for the School Board to review.
Absences due to non school related extra curricular activities
- Families should note that part-time homeschooling or “dual enrolment” is not recognised by the Ministry of Education. A child must be either enrolled in school, or have a homeschooling exemption. Any time away from school for learning at home without an exemption will be recorded as an absence.
- If you would like an exemption for a ‘special event’ e.g. national competitions or sporting events you can contact the principal at principal@peria.school.nz
Arriving late / leaving school early
- We understand leaving school early or attending appointments is at times unavoidable but when we see a pattern of signing in late or signing out which impedes on learning we will be in communication with whānau to understand why.
- Please contact the office at least the day before if you know your child needs to leave early to attend an appointment.
